Hyrule here I come!

Hyrule here I come!, originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake.

I went to pick up my copy of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D today as stores were closed here yesterday in celebration of Father's Day :( I was really irked by this not only because we would be getting it later than everyone else int he USA but because Nintendo had this free soundtrack offer when you register your game with Club Nintendo and you had to register the game the first day to be able to get it. Thank god that they extended the offer until tomorrow @ midnight I believe because of the popularity of it. I guess a lot of people went out and got it on launch just because of the offer. I am so happy so happy to finally have something other than fighters to play in my 3DS <3 The other games I own right now are Street Fighter IV and DOA Dimensions so I was really itching for an rpg/adventure to spend some real time with. I will post a video review once I've spent some time with it for now I am just happy to revisit Hyrule and run with Epona once again. The last time I played this when it came out for the N64 many many eons ago and I have very fond memories of it. To everyone who got this today have fun :)

Super 8 Movie Review

I went to see Super 8 today and as a big fan of J.J. Abrams and Spielberg I was psyched to see what these two had come up with. I don't like to go to a movie with big expectations because most of the time I end up disappointed but this time I'm glad I was psyched up because this film didn't let me down. I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. Abrams really set the mood for the time period and the film even looks like it came right out of the late 70's early 80's. The music and soundtrack by Lost's famed composer Miachel Giaccino set the perfect tone to a wonderfully presented story. I was taken back to the 80's when I first saw The Goonies this is the perfect adventure flick and it seems that Abrams took his inspiration right from it. The characters are easy to relate to and endearing and the sci-fi aspect provides that intrigue for which Abrams is so well known in his work now. I highly recommend you watch this one at the theater you will not regret it!

Old schoolin' it

Old schoolin' it, originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake.

So I've been on a real retro gaming kick lately and the more I get into it the more I go back in time XD I recently found 2 more of my old NES cartridges from my childhood at my mom's house and have been playing these for old time's sake. I am dying to find a top loading NES in good condition and amplify my collection. I will also be doing a vid on my NES collection as soon as I can. I need to get done with the DS one first though XD

64K

64K, originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake.

I've mentioned previously on my profiles that one of my first gaming experiences was on my bothers Commodore 64 when I was about 5 years old and this PC came out way back in 80's. Well I was talking to my other brother today and he told me that he had bought a C64 from a friend not too long ago. I almost jumped for joy when he looked it up for me and let me borrow it to see if it was working so I will be making a Youtube vid soon about this awesome find and how we get it to work since we still haven't hooked it up. I am so geekely excited to try this out as I have so many fond memories of playing on it as a child :)

Mayaguez Game Expo 2011

We went to the Mayaguez Game Expo on April 2nd, 2011. We had a ton of fun watching the cosplayers and browsing the dealers room. I bought 2 Lucky Star figures and a handmade plushie, I'll be taking pics of the plushie soon. All the cosplayers were really nice and there were some amazing costumes. I especially loved the Okami girl one and the Deku Scrub. Sadly the Okami didn't win anything but the deku scrub did win. Here are some pics of the Expo:

Lucky Star *___*

I am truly and majorly obsessed with Lucky Star. This anime makes me laugh like nothing else can. It is packed full of gaming, otaku and other nerdy references for those of us who love this kind of stuff. I recently went to a convention and picked up two Lucky Star figures: Yutaka (this one) and one of Miyuki I will post later.

Castle in the midst

Castle in the midst, originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake.

I recently got a new Nikon D90 just because I really wanted to try the HD video of a dslr and this one was the best I could find performance vs money wise. I have another cam in my wish-list with better video quality and features but this one will do fine for now. So far I'm loving it. I made this little video to play around with it I hope you guys enjoy it. Props to those of you who recognize the music!

Heavenly Creatures retro movie review

Heavenly Creatures, originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake.

When my husband suggested the movie Heavenly Creatures to me a long time ago he told me it was directed by Peter Jackson and that he had really enjoyed watching it when it first came out. I was really anxious to see it but we couldn’t find a copy anywhere. It wasn’t until last night that we were able to watch the film. I was so blown away by this movie in so many levels that I am having a hard time articulating all that I want to say about it. If you’ve followed Jackson's work you know one of his first films “Meet the Feebles” is an insane acid trip of a film that uses puppets in adult situations.

Creatures is very much alike to The Lovely Bones teenage escapism theme where the protagonist visits these fantasy scenarios to escape her reality with the added bonus of Meet the Feebles like crazy role playing puppets. If you haven’t watched any of these other films by Jackson I highly recommend them because you will see how he has sort of recycled some of his ideas in them but each time he makes it into a completely unique experience.

This movie revolves around the relationship between two teenage girls, played by the @ that time a newbie Kate Winslet and Melanie Lysnkey. This film touches so many themes from friendship, love, family, homosexuality, and teenage rebellion but the one that touched me the most was the psychological theme of escapism and the beautiful way that Jackson renders it. Both girls have emotional problems that lead them form a very strong bond that turns into an obsession once their families see their relationship turn into more than a friendship and try to separate them.
If you like fantasy and have an open mind do yourself a favor and seek out a copy of this film. This is Peter Jackson at his best. The film is pretty hardcore but its also in my opinion a masterpiece; it’s beautiful, its soft, its gory and what is more outstanding its based on a true story. Now stop reading this and go watch it!

Mini 365: 46/365 Mako eyes

I wanted to make a small post about this Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children gashapon keychain because it holds a special meaning to me. I've been playing rpgs since I was a little girl and Final Fantasy is one of my favorite series so I was super happy to get this little in the mail one day as a gift. The story behind this gashapon is that for years I've been a loyal fan of rpgamer.com and in that site there is a column named Japandemonioum. This column brings news and lifestyle info from Japan from people who are currently living in Japan or are fluent in Japanese. I used to closely follow the column when this guy was writing it and he was doing an English teaching internship in Japan years ago and one time he asked his readers to make him a special signature for his column and made it a bit of a contest saying he would mail something special from Japan to whoever won. I went and put a signature together for him with my limited PS knowledge at the time using a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) theme because besides being an rpg lover he also loved DDR games (and so did I). So in the end he picked mine and another reader's signatures and sent us both a prize and this little guy was mine. I still treasure my present to this day and always will because this guy was really nice and I loved reading about his experience in Japan. So wherever you are Joydan sensei much love to you and I hope you are still gaming man!

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation

I picked up my copy of Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation yesterday when it came out. I had reserved it so I also got this super kawaii slime plushie *___* The tiny slime keychain was also a pre-order bonus but from years back for the game Rocket Slime. I won't be playing this one for a while so my impressions and review for it will have to wait since I still haven't finished Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and this is another commitment heavy rpg. I am currently between Minish Cap for the GBA, Golden Sun on the DS and Stacking on the PS3 which are more than I can currently juggle without completely losing my mind XD I will be making a post about these other games very soon so watch out for that in the meantime. I am also going to be making a video about what I'm currently playing with my new D90 so I have a lot of things planned I just need the days to have 48 hours ^^; That's it for now but keep coming back for more videogame goodness and thanks for reading everyone!

Neo Games Japan

Neo Games Japan
Originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake
My hubs I went on a game hunting expedition yesterday in search of some oldies but goodies. We made a few stops but our first one was totally non game related but worth mentioning XD We went to Krispy Kremes first to get some yummy doughnuts before we arrived at our first stop: Neo Games Japan. This store specializes in old school games from Atari 2600 to NES, GENESIS and a bit of everything else. We went there mainly to buy some Genesis and NES cartridges. You can see what we picked up there in my first pick ups video on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzTmtjgC0cc&feature=youtube_gdata The place is small but has quite a bit of variety and I would mostly recommend it if you want to get some non rare old school stuff, otherwise the prices for the more hard to find things are a bit steep and you can probably get a better deal online but as far as NES, Genesis, Master System stuff the cartridges are fairly priced and they are tested before they accept them in trade in so they are all in good working condition. If you live in Puerto Rico and want to get some retro games you can visit their website here for some directions: http://www.prtc.net/~neojapan/Neojapan.htm

Cookie Shop

Cookie Shop
Originally uploaded by Atelier Cupcake
I wanted to share with you guys this Nintendo DS game that I found a bit back while game hunting at my local Toys R Us. I went to get Phantasy Star 0 and I came out with this.

Cookie Shop is a TRU exclusive game published by SouthPeak games in the USA. When I found this in the bargain bin of $20 or less games I literally squealed XD With the horrible cover art you probably would think this is just another shovelware for a system that is one big shovelware magnet but you'd be surprised. It's generic name and poorly designed cover art are really deceptive. This game is actually an English port of a super kawaii Japanese game published by TDK in Japan named Choco Inu No Sweets Department. If I hadn't owned a copy of the original Japanese release of this game chances are I probably wouldn't have given this game much of a look @ TRU but when I saw some of the characters in the cover I had to turned it around to confirm it was indeed the same import game I owned.

Choco Inu No Sweet Shop, or Cookie Shop here, is a game that attracted my attention a few years back because of its totally kawaii art and dessert shop theme. This was one I had to import to try out even though I only know a tiny bit of spoken Japanese and have no reading knowledge of the language at all. Little did I know at the time that this game is SUPER TEXT HEAVY. If you can read Japanese I would recommend getting the original just for the cute artwork but otherwise stay away because you will not get too far if you aren't fluent in written Japanese ^^;

Now you know why I totally geeked out in glee when I saw an English copy of this game. The back even says you need basic reading knowledge on the USA version so this game is not for the younger crowd or those who don't like text heavy games. If you get if expecting Diner Dash or Cake Mania you'll be sorely disappointed; but that doesn't mean this game isn't worth getting. Keep reading to see if its worth a buy for you :)

Cookie Shop is basically a sim game a la Pop Cutie (another game I'll be reviewing/doing an impression of soon). In this game you control a kawaii pink dog that gets to run his own dessert shop just like the Japanese title implies (Choco Inu no Sweet Shop basically translates to Choco Dog's Sweet Shop ^^;) The game takes place in a mall full of shops run by uber cute animals. The objective of the game is to make your dessert shop thrive by making new recipes and selling them. When you make money you can can make shop upgrades and buy furniture and clothes for yourself. So far I've only played a few hours into this game because I'm very deeply committed to playing Golden Sun Dark Dawn in my spare time but from the little time I've spent with it I can recommend this game for those of you who:

1. Have a love of all things Japan and kawaii
2. Like to play The Simes, Animal Crossing and other sim games
3. Want to try something different on the NDS.

I will go ahead and do a full review of this one once I'm done playing it but for now I wanted to share with you this little preview in case you happen to come across it @ your local TRU you can pick it up for $19.99. I think this game was also released in other countries such as Europe but if you can't find it where you are you might want to look into importing a copy from the evilbay or have a friend pick it up for you in the USA. I gladly would get it for you if I can find more copies, so just give me a shout out and maybe we can work out a trade for other DS or any other console games or game related things. I also have the Japanese copy up for trade if anyone is interested. Please leave me a comment below if you'd like me to pick you up a copy next time I'm @ TRU, if you'd like to trade for the Japanese version or even if you enjoyed this preview ♥
